Are you being heard? Study shows redundant communication pays off in delivering outcomes

Wednesday, May 04, 2011

Wondering how you can achieve more at work?  I was intrigued by this study of six companies which shows that 21% of managers without formal power send redundant messages — for example, an email message after a face-to-face meeting — compared with just 12% of managers who have formal power.  Read More

Introducing the sphinxx directory of recommended services – our network is about to become yours!

Wednesday, September 29, 2010

If you’ve ever been responsible for establishing employee development programs, conferences or leadership offsites, you’ll know just difficult it can be to find fantastic, out of this world, leading-edge service providers.  In a sea of social media and spin, my vast network send me calls for help every day – by email, LinkedIn, twitter and the sphinxx website - all looking for advice about who they should hire for their own professional development needs, or to supplement their in-house women's programs. Read More

Life Balance: Where are men and women actually spending their time? See this graph to find out how we spend our hours.

Thursday, July 08, 2010

And no surprise, women spend almost triple the time parenting, and a little less taking care of ourselves. This graph represents the average hours per week. Does this fit with your week? I know I work a great deal more then 27.3 hours, but the comparison seems about right to how many of my male peers seem to spend their time.

Smart phones –friend or foe

Saturday, May 29, 2010

Technology increases our ability to reach one another and be constantly connected to your responsibilities, people, and life, especially with the exponential rise of the smart phone. But is this a good thing? It seems that half of the women I speak with think their smartphones have given them flexibility and freedom, while the other half wish they could flush the darned things down the toilet (and sometimes their kids do this for them!). Read More

What does a man know about what the happiest and most successful women do differently?

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Well it depends really on who that man is.  If the man is anything like that boyfriend I dated before I met my current husband, probably nothing because he only dated women who were significantly less successful than him - as soon as they got good, he traded down!  And if the man is that bully I worked with a few years back who seemingly hated everything about me, especially when I executed successfully on a problem he'd convinced everyone else that couldn't be achieved, probably not much either! Read More

The value of taking time off

Monday, May 17, 2010

Taking time off is not just something you do to stay sane (although it is a major reason for doing it!). Time off also enables you to work through issues, create projects, have thoughts and make plans you just don’t have the time to when you’re working long days, and trying to balance work with life. Read More

Be remembered for what you do, not just what you promise to do

Wednesday, April 08, 2009

As a project manager, one of the things I enjoyed most was seeing a plan come together into a finished product.  Last month in the sphinxx Take the Lead mentoring program, Yvonne Butler talked about the important role that implementation plays in leadership.  Yvonne pointed out that the best leaders are remembered for their results rather than their strategy.  That is, they become famous for what they actually do; not just what they say they’ll do.   Read More
