Very exciting news for women in developing countries

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

The New York Times has published the results of a study this week finding a clear decline in women dying from pregnancy and childbirth globally.

The article reports that the death rate has dropped 342,900 in 2008 from 526,300 in 1980. That’s more then 180,000 less deaths each year.
Whilst advocates for maternal health maintain we should still view the issue as urgent, it is a hugely encouraging step for women’s rights and welfare globally.
