It’s a constant concern for many working women, but recently I’ve been having more conversations, and running a couple of polls that have put the work-life balance struggle a priority issue.
So for the next few weeks I will be writing a series of blogs about work life balance that will include tips, research findings and information and opportunities to start working towards balance.
Up first, I’ve listed a series of free (or very cheap) fun “life” activities in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. Pick an event (or suggest another I’ve missed!) and have at least one day or night in June, just for you.

Hi Jen,
Nigel Marsh (CEO of Y&R Brands ANZ and one of the founders of Earth Hour) made an excellent presentation on work-life balance at the TEDxSydney event over the weekend. Might be worthwhile connecting with him to discuss ideas around work-life balance: http://www.nigelmarsh.com/index.html
Kind regards,
Raji

I strongly believe we need to change the words "work-life" balance. Maybe life balance would do??
I was fortunate to attend the TEDx conference and while Nigel Marsh spoke eloquently I believe that going to work is part of our lives/life. The phrase work-life balance would suggest that work is not part of our life. Strangely it is and we need to move our mindsets from an "either or" frame to one of inclusion for all the things we do and want to do. Where imbalance occurs, it is often a reflection of our priorities, values and the skills we have in balancing all the things we want included in our lives..... including work.

Hi Babette,
I agree that work-life balance can be a problematic term, especially if we interpret it as an either or like you mentioned.
Because sphinxx is a network of working women, come together to support each other in their jobs we wanted to run a series to ensure you're doing the other stuff well also. And many of our upcoming blogs are on how to really excel at work and enjoy it, making it the richest possible addition to your life.
