I cannot recommend highly enough the colour lounge in leichhardt
www.colourlounge.com.au. They just do colour and browdry not cutting. The best is that the colour is fantastic, price is extremely reasonable and you can go in for a colour and wash and choose not to pay extra ($40) for blowdry, and there is a blow dry bar where you can do it yourself or go home with hair damp.
The only service they do not provide is cutting but cannot recommend the girls here highly enough. Permanent colour $60 Semi-permanent colour $60 Scattered highlights $50 Half-head highlights $80 Full-head highlights $110 Regrowth $45 Toning treatment $25 Deep-conditioning treatment $20 Style$40 . I highly recommend Studio 500 on Miller Street in Cammeray. 1/4 head foils is around $65, 1/2 head around $90 and full head $120. Blow dry is an extra $40 but you can choose not to have one. I can't remember how much their cuts are but they are also reasonably priced.

It's a Kerastase salon which also stocks L'Oreal Professionnel so they offer quality products you can take home.

I've been going to this salon for 2.5 years now and have always been very happy with the service.

If you live in Adelaide, you cant go past a wonderful salon located in Black Forest (on South Road) - called ALLEGRIA HAIR & BEAUTY.
A very vibrant young lady called Helen owns the salon and prides herself on making every client feel like part of the family.
Ladies cut is only $30! Full colour is $45 and a blow dry is $35 (this includes a styling, hair straighten etc).
She has plenty of new magazines to read, offers tea, coffee, hot chocolate (with little mashmellows!) and free lollies for the kids.
She also has a lovely water feature in the salon placed in the correct Feng Shu position to bring happiness and harmony into the salon. She is open until 7pm every night.

I have been going to "Hair 2 Envy" in Camden 4655 9444, south west Sydney for years. The girls are friendly and they know exactly what style will suit, if you are open to their advice. I colour my own hair so I just get a cut, costs me $27.50,(I have short hair) they dry it and I'm always very happy. There is no hassling or pressure to get things you don't want. Of course you can get the works done as well and they do Formal & Bridal hair designs. I always book ahead so that I don't miss out.There are numerous other salons in Camden but when you find one that makes you feel welcome and that nothings a problem why would you go anywhere else. They also have a VIP loyalty Card offering a 15% discount on your 8th visit.

I highly recommend Glitterbox in King Street, Newtown (9550 2700). $130 for colour, cut and blow dry. I see Tom who is delightful and is also an expert at cutting fine hair (manna from heaven to me). They do a great job and are lovely and down to earth. Cater for corporate women like me through to goths with pink and purple streaks.

If you live in Sydney on the North Side, I highly recommend High Profile in Dee Why. Ph: 9981 2448. It's not super swish, but warm and friendly with great staff, quality work and extremely reasonable prices.

The staff I recommend are:

Angela - hair extensions
Alex, Angela, Rebecca, for colour, tints, highlights etc...
Harry and Alex for cuts.

I paid $110.00 for a tint to cover my greys, highlights and a blow dry. (A friend paid $300.00 for the same elsewhere) They also throw in a fringe trim. They have coffee, magazines, council car park a short walk away and in the middle of DY shops, so sushi shops, subway etc.. 2 doors from salon.

Last year while growing my hair I had extensions put in and Angela is brilliant at it and extremely reasonably priced. I can't remember the price, but talking to friends in was substantially cheaper without compromising the quality of the work!

They also are fine if you don't want a blow dry, and will reduce the price. So I highly recommend them. It's a 15min drive for me, but well worth it!

For those living in in Melbourne, try Six Degrees Ark on Bridge Rd, Richmond. They are an Aveda Salon, so the products they use are healthier for you, the staff and the people who produce them. Additionally, this salon is one of the best value salons I've found, and take it from someone who colours monthly!

Caravella Hair Design in Epping NSW does great foils! Half a head is under $100!!! Cut, half head of foils and blow dry $160.
Down to earth staff and no push to sell you things you don't need!
Take the chance to get out of the city to experience it!

If you are not concerned with ambiance, but don't want to compromise on quality and like really great value with a top quality cut and blow dry (particularly straight blow dry) I recommend Shiny Star Hairdressing. It is located in the underground walkway from Central Station under the George St and Broadway intersection in Sydney. Cost for a shampoo, ladies cut and blow dry straight is $40 all inclusive. No need to book and fast and efficient service.

Sydney's Eastern Suburbs seems to be under-represented here. Despite what people think about the Eastern Suburbs (pricey), Characters in Randwick is great. Not too expensive yet friendly and fast. They know all their regulars' names, and Tony and Georege, the owners, are very helpful. It's a good quality haircut or colour without the Eastern Suburbs price tag or attitude. Well, it is in Randwick, after all.

Palm Beach Salon in, you guessed it, Palm Beach NSW has great service, easy parking, current magazines, good coffee from the cafe next door, and the best part is $150 cut, colour, blowdry. At least $100 cheaper than other salons on the Northern Beaches!

I can't believe the prices you're all paying! I use colour from the health shop at home for $25. I bought a near new Remington hair styler/straightener for $10 at a garage sale which works well but a new GHD only cost $300. My hair is shoulder length with no fringe - last cut was $25 at Donna's Creative Image, New Lambton. Very pleasant and friendly service.
Don't overlook the local barber if you dont need frills. I used to go to the same barber as my husband and son - he was very good (and cheap) with my hair and my daughters bob but since he retired they boys go to someone else who is not so good with the ladies.
Take a risk, and don't get ripped off, the savings are out there.
