Cooked With Love – a fabulous last-minute mothers day gift that’s also supporting young Aussie girls at risk

Friday, May 06, 2011

It was a pleasure this week to attend the launch of the new SISTER2sister cookbook fundraiser, Cooked With Love – Recipes my mother taught me.  I was there as a contributor along with some of the other supporters of S2s who also shared the recipes their mothers had handed down, and most importantly my mum Kaye who flew in from South Australia especially for the event.

Some of the other contributors in the book include Bessie Bardot, Amanda Cole, Bianca Dye, Kathryn Eisman, Melinda Hutchings, Dr Cindy Pan, Jacinta Tynan - and of course the wonderful Jessica Brown Founder and CEO of the Lifechanging Experiences Foundation, home of the SISTER2sister program.

This is my own mum with the beautiful book, which you might have already seen in this month’s Madison magazine where there’s a double page spread on the book and the great stories behind it.  What you won’t be able to see though is just how gorgeous the books are in real life: they’re printed in full colour, on glossy paper with a lovely hard cover outer – making them a beautiful and very practical addition to any kitchen bench.  And the recipes look almost good enough for me to get the courage to get back in the kitchen to give them a shot!

The best thing about the book though is that (thanks to the sponsorship of Nivea) 100% of all proceeds sold will go to the SISTER2sister program, giving young girls at risk a greater chance of success in life. As a long-time supporter of the S2s program, I can vouch for the wonderful work it does and the truly life changing outcomes it delivers for each of the young girls involved in the program.

Oh… and for those of my own family who were taking bets on which recipe I would share, it was Mum’s Pea and Ham soup… just in time for winter!
